How does this work-what do you think?

For my reception, we are doing passed appetizers for the guests. And as the caterer is doing this, we are socializing and walking around to talk and thank guests. The traditional bouquet and garter toss is still in effect and the first dance is too, but have you seen the passed appetizers at a wedding and how was it effective or a disaster? What do you think?
