Flowers for my date, single or bouquet?

I would go with the single rose. It seems more romantic, I guess. You can give a bouquet to your dying aunt, but I think single roses are expressly reserved for dates. Plus, you're right, it would be nice not having to carry an entire bouquet around, it would probably get kind of awkward and annoying.
